Tripura to provide “Vote from Home” option for senior citizens and people with disabilities

The Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced that senior citizens and people with disabilities will be given the option to cast their votes from home. The CEO stated that this decision was made to ensure that these citizens are not disadvantaged during the upcoming assembly elections.

The adequate number of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs) have reached here and the flag march and night patrolling are also being done. We want fair, transparent, and peaceful polls. Senior citizens above 80 years and persons with disabilities will have the option to vote from home.

Implementation of the Program

  • The “Vote from Home” option will be implemented through a special booth, where the voter will be accompanied by a polling official and an attendant.
  • The polling official will assist the voter in casting their vote, which will then be delivered to the concerned polling station for counting.
  • This option could be accessed only by senior citizens above 80 years of age or persons with disabilities

Statistics

  • According to the 2011 census, around 2.6% of Tripura’s population consists of people with disabilities.
  • The state also has a significant number of senior citizens, with around 8.5% of the population being above the age of 60.
  • There are more than 62.8 lakh electors combined in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura
  • There are approximately 97,000 voters who are 80 years old.
  • There are approximately 31,700 PwD voters
